Dear Family and Friends of Waiokeola Church,
During these past weeks as Barbara and I have been making plans to leave our home at Lake Tahoe and journey to Honolulu, I have been reflecting on the many memories we have of our prior times with you. Your sincere spirituality and strong sense of community have been known to us. When I retired as Senior Minister of Central Union Church some twenty years ago, we sought a new church home. A house of worship where we could find caring, where we could sing great hymns and join in prayer, a spiritual home where outreach was important and we could continue to grow in our faith. Although the choices were many, we found it at Waiokeola. Yes, life is not static and change is all about us, but we know that we will find that same sense of aloha in the coming months that we have known throughout the past years with you.
This first Sunday of September is the start of a new season of faithfulness, growing in our faith, and great gratitude to our God for the many blessings we have known in our lives. I invite you to step through the front doors of Waiokeola this Sunday. You will be greeted by friends, you will be touched by the sound of music, the large cross above the chancel will be before you, candles flickering, and the altar table prepared for our monthly sharing of the Lord’s Supper, the bread and the cup. A very sacred moment!
I am looking forward to seeing you this Sunday. Come as you are. Experience a renewal of your spiritual journey. You’ll be the better for having done so.
Ted
Blessings plenty, Ted
